FCPX losing footage quality with letterbox/offset

hello,

I am new to FCPX and i am only using the trail so i can decide if i want to upgrade from fcp 7. i started working on some footage that i imported ProRess HQ 422 1920x1080 29.97p i took it direct from my atomos external recorder. it looks great in Quicktime NOT SO GOOD IN THE TIMELINE and yes i set playback to high quality 🙂 i noticed it looked a bit fuzzy but messed a little bit with settings and got it 95% clear. now I ad letterbox to it and i noticed it went down a little bit THEN I offset the letter box and BAM obvious quality loss.. I tried everything does any body now what could be causing it? thank you very very much!

my computer might be a bit outdated especially my graphics card...

What settings did you change; from what to what?

After you applied the effect,, did you render it?

Use the the range tool and select a short section to export as a master file. How does it look in QuickTime Player (Xor 7)?

Russ, thank you for the reply

the settings i messed with was the proxy...

I exported the file and i can still see the slight fuzzy in quicktime,I just looked at it in a couple different ways on my TV... and if i have the letterbox but NOT do the offset the image is crisp... can the moving of the image cause this?

again thank you for the reply

You shouldn't need proxy (or optimized) versions of your clips. What I'd suggest as a test is to import one of your clips and in the import dialog, leave the boxes for Optimized and Proxy unchecked. If you have the media on your Mac, check leave files in place. Create a new project and edit the clip to the timeline. Add your effect. How does that look?
