I bought an older A1225 model iMac dual core intel and I was wondering if the computer can run the newest software that apple has released? If not, then what is the highest it can run?

An A1225 is a Core 2 Duo Mac, not a Core Duo one. Six models use that code; all of them can be upgraded to Yosemite.

The highest OS X that a Core Duo can run is Snow Leopard 10.6
An A1225 Core 2 Duo can run the current OS X, but you will want to max out the RAM.

I have a iMac a1225 that is on 4GB memory and got a "Core 2 Duo" CPU running on OS X El Capitan.
So i think it is possible.
