How can I use my guitar as a bass?

I don't want to buy a bass- want to use my guitar for bass lines. I was told Garage Band can lower a track's pitch by 1 full octave.
I have the latest version 10.0.3
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

A software instrument track can be transposed either up or down by up to two octaves (+/- 24 semitones). An audio recording track can be transposed up or down by +/- 12 semitones.

Select the audio region to transpose, then click on the "editors" button (shown selected in the following photo):User uploaded file

Expand up the editor region up in order to see the Transpose slider at the bottom-left of the editor. Check the "Follow Tempo & Pitch" button in order to get the Transpose slider to work.

Note, on occasion, I've had to close then reopen my project in order to get this function to work.
