Macbook pro retina (Mid 2014) won't send signal to external display

Ok. I have a new Dell U2415 monitor. Using the supplied display port to mini display port cable, I can connect the display to a thunderbolt port on an iMac and the display is recognized immediately. When I plug it into a thunderbolt port on my rMBP mid 2014, The dell monitor says it is going into power save mode and that the macbook isn't sending any signal. When I open display preferences on the computer it shows the Dell U2415 in the screen arrangement and acts like it see the monitor correctly.

Like I said it works flawlessly on my iMac in the office.
