epson picturemate airprint options

I am researching the purchase of a portable photo printer for my kids. The options are the Canon Selphy or the Epson PictureMate. I prefer some of the PictureMate's capabilities but it does not support Airprint.

I have a spare older model Airport. Can I attach the printer to the airport and give it airprint capabilities from my iOS devices?

How?

Is there any discussion of upgrading the Epson for airprint?

Thanks in advance

I assume that the printer would be connected to the USB port on the AirPort router, and that the router is no more than a few years old. You need to be able to print from your Mac to the Epson printer first....before....you can look at at iOS possibility.

Once you have printing working through the Mac, see if a workaround like Printopia might allow the iOS devices to print to the Epson. There is a free trial, so you will know in a few minutes whether or not the workaround will work.

The downside to this......you must have your Mac running on the network when you want to print. More details here if you are interested:

Honestly, if you are looking for a new printer, life would be tons easier if you simply get an AirPrint compatible printer.
