MacBook Pro shuts off immediately after startup

My MacBook Pro shuts off immediately after I start it. It gets to the Apple logo on the grey screen and it shuts down. I have tried launching it in safe mode, resetting the NVRAM settings, nothing works.. Has anyone witnessed similar problems ? What can I do to fix this problem ? Help is gladly appreciated.

Then it's likely the hard drive has failed. To determine if that is the case you need to try reformatting the drive then reinstalling OS X. If Disk Utility cannot see the drive or reports an unfixable error, then the drive has most likely failed.


Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch


Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.


Boot to the Recovery HD:


Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.


Erase the hard drive:


1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.


2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the

left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.


3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on

the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on

the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.


4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.


Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.


Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible

because it is three times faster than wireless.


This should install the version of OS X that you had installed.

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.


When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.


Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.


Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

OS X Yosemite- Reinstall OS X

OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X

OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X

Hi Have you tried single user mode? Or safe boot? http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203176 I had one person try something a little different and it worked for them. If may or may not for you . But I will pass it along. You are going to do a SMC reset for macbook pro with batteries you cannot remove. You want to boot up holding down the Command/Option.Shift key and power button. Then before you release the power button switch to holding down the Option R or Command R keys.Then release the power button and press again. Keep the keys down.Till you get to a screen.
