Sound from Audioquest Dragonfly via USB is not overriding internal speakers when using Tidal

My Audioquest Dragonfly external DAC works like a dream with itunes and Spotify. However when using TIdal and Qobuz the sound always defaults to the internal speakers and it is seemingly impossible to stop this.

Has anyone else had this problem?

MacBook, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)
