We are just users like you. We don't know what Apple has planned. Furthermore, speculation here is forbidden.

I thought Apple may have announced a new generation is in the works or that the nano line had come to an end with the 7th generation. Afraid I just dropped my 6th gen nano and busted the screen. Don't know how long the cello tape will keep it together.
Either do an out-of-warranty replacement of your 6th Generation or buy a 7th Generation.
