Q: Verizon Messages - SMS

iPhone 6 Plus + 8.1.3

I have a requirement to use the Verizon Messages app for text messages on my phone.  The Verizon Messages app basically allows you to do text messages over cellular and/or wifi and stores your messages with Verizon for 90 days.  It will allow you to read messages through a web browser.  Bottom line, I want all text/sms to automatically go through Verizon Messages, and ideally no messages going through iMessage.

Unfortunately, When I activated my new iPhone, it seems that everyone who has an iPhone now sends messages to iMessage by default.  The Verizon Messages application tells you disable iMessage or you may run into problems.  When I disable iMessage, I no longer receive messages at all from those people who had texted me from iPhones (presumably using iMessage).  So, now I need to have both of them running, which gets kind of confusing (for me at least).

Technically speaking, should I be able to simply disable iMessage and everything should go to SMS from other iPhones?  Or is it a necessity to have iMessage active?

Does any of this involve Facetime???

Hope this makes sense...

    Hey EyeballIB,

If you do not want to use iMessage you can totally do that. You can sign out of iMessage and that will take care of it but it can take some time to update. If you are still unable to get your messages, the people that are messaging you will need to delete their conversation thread and start a new one to get it sent as a text message. If you still have issues, take a look at the article below and there is an option to deregister iMessage.

HI Norm - thanks for the response.  I turned off iMessage & deregistered it using the Apple website link and still no good.  I then turned iMessage on and off again and surprisingly now my VZ Messages seems to be working OK now.  Not sure which part triggered it, but all's well that ends well, I guess.

For some reason, inbound SMS messages still filter into the Messaging (iMessage) app (I guess there's no way to stop that).  I just shut off notifications so I don't get them all twice.

    Thanks again!
