When I upgraded my iMac to OS 10.10.2, iPhoto won't work.
When I tried to upgrade iPhoto, I got messages that it is not compatible. I need to get to my photos!
Then I could not find any way to connect with apple chat at all.
Anybody here able to help?

What exactly happened when you tried to update iPhoto in the App Store? Please post the complete, verbatim text of any error message, not a paraphrase.
I was able to upgrade iPhoto to version 9, but now it has a circle with a line across it and I can not open it. When I tried to download version 8, that did not work either. I am not at home so can't check the exact message right now. I am very concerned about getting access to my photos.

Back up all data, then drag the iPhoto application to the Trash and empty. Try again to download it from the App Store. Your photo library is stored elsewhere and won't be affected.
You need at least iPhoto version 9.5.1 for Yosemite. The current version is 9.6. Anything below 9.5.1 won't run under Yosemite, which is why version 8 failed.

How back up all data? I do have ibook automatic backup for my computer. It sounds scary to delete iPhoto all together, though!

Move what ever versions of the iPhoto application you have to the Trash bin, go to the App Store and download iPhoto 9.6 again. If your library was created with iPhoto 7 (08) then you'll also have to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 on your library before iPhoto 9.6 will be able to open it. The upgrader is downloaded into the Applications/Utilities folder.

I did this and have restored use of iPhoto in 9.6. Would not have known about the upgrader without your help!
