MBP Retina 15'' mid 2012 vs MBP Retina 15'' mid 2014

The only significant difference that I am aware of is that the new MBPs have PCIe storage and Ivy Bridge CPUs replaced by Haswell CPUs. That said, if you look at the benchmark score, i see that the differences are not that dramatic and even more important, in real world operation, the differences would be noticeable only when running very, very resource intensive applications.

hmm I'm using a macbook air intel i7 8gb ram and 500gb flash and don't really see the difference but the extra 2" of screen.

so pros cheaper, same performance thiner.

cons smaller display, no retina, no hdmi port, much heavier.

so baseline i think stick with you current mac until it breaks. 😉

Good point, I overlooked that. If you have inclinations for connecting to a 4k display, the new MBP will support that, the older (2012) will not.

I cannot provide you with an authoritative answer there because I do not get involved in that type of activity. Certainly there should be an improvement but I cannot say to what degree.

It's been a while but when the rMBP was first released, there were many complaints about the reliability of USB 3.0 connections. That problem was fixed in the Early 2013 (which I waited for for that reason) and later releases, so if a fast and reliable USB 3.0 connection is important to you, you'll get it with the new model.
