Putting a 1600MHz RAM chip into a 1333MHz slot - possible?

Hi guys, I've noticed my Mid-2012 non-Retina MBP running a little slow since the jump to Yosemite, especially when several applications are open and Safari is running several tabs (not a problem in Mavericks, but hey). As a result I thought about buying two 4GB Kingston RAM chips so as to double the computer's RAM. Now here is where it gets tricky. I also own a 2010 iMac that has four 1333MHz slots. They are currently filled by 2 2GB chips. Would it be possible to move the 2GB 1600MHz chips from my MacBook to my iMac's 1333MHz slots, to give both computers 8GB RAM?

Looking forward to your answer.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Hi

The 1600MHz chips should down clock the Ram themselves to 1333MHz
