shuffle 4th gen- Red light for 5 seconds when connected, but then turns off. No other lights. itunes doesn't recognize.

Plugged into computer -have verified the USB ports are working, and have tried three different cables.
After a few seconds, the light turns red for about 5 seconds.
Then light goes off.
No other lights come on.
Shuffle is not recognized by iTunes (latest version)
