Q: quicktime keeps defaulting to Finder

I have a new Mac desk top and I don't think I have it set up right. I am trying to to record a tutorial on quicktime . I opened the the web site in Safari and then opened quicktime. Quicktime then defaulted to finder. What am I doing wrong?

I went to use QuickTime this morning, and a finder window popped up, showing me this:

I until I actually go find a file to open, clicking on open does nothing here.  Clicking on done, closes the window, and Quicktime remains open, with no windows.

Is Quicktime trying to load a video automatically?  If so, how do I remove that script?
