I've been sent a word doc from work, it's one page, but when I open it in pages it decides to spread it across two pages, it's an editable file which I need to fill in each week and send back, would like to be able to keep it to one page, any ideas? Thank you in advance

Have you tried
(1) decreasing header, footer, margins?
(2) reducing font size?
(3) See if there is an invisible page break you can remove?
You do not need to use Pages which is not a clone of MsWord.
There are differences to how Pages renders a layout and MsWord renders a layout.
Use LibreOffice [free] instead.

You need to use the word processing tool that sends the Word document back with the same formatting as received. Pages won't do that. As mentioned by Peter, the free LibreOffice (Writer), or Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 (Word) will not cause you any embarassment.
