Feb 25, 2015 1:53 PM in response to King_Penguinby flyingbeetle,hi, thanks! I got the instructions off support apple. I know my password.
I think my taxi driver caused the problem when I left my ipad in the taxi while I ran into the library.
I tried to follow instructions I got off the apple suppoort page.
I was instructed to open iTunes with the ipad disconnected
connect the ipad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes
Click on the ipad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or set up as a new ipad (since it is locked)
Click set up as new ipad and then clic restore
except there is no option like that shown
I know my password..did not forget it. any simple solution to this? surprised!
(I have run out of printer paper..!!

Feb 25, 2015 2:20 PM in response to flyingbeetleby ChitlinsCC,Just no option? No error message means this is not likely to help > If you can't back up or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using iTunes - Apple Support
but worth a read?
This is probably the steps you took > If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
The view from 30,000 feet > Resolve iOS update and restore errors in iTunes - Apple Support
This is the long shot - concerns known error message #s - BUT it has a BUNCH of different things to try > Get help with iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support
Security software & iTunes sometimes don't play well together > Resolve issues between iTunes and security software - Apple Support
maybe too much info at once, but now you have a relatively thorough search of the support sub-domain for [ ipad restore itunes troubleshoot ]
In case I am just assuming that you are connecting to a Mac "computer" > iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
best luck

Feb 25, 2015 10:35 PM in response to flyingbeetleby King_Penguin,How far down the instructions are you getting, what options are you not seeing ? With the current version of iTunes (iTunes 12) the iPad should show as an icon towards the top left of the iTunes screen, click on that and then click on Summary on the left-hand column :
On the right-hand side of the iTunes screen there should be a restore from back button.
