I'm using a MacBook Pro 15inch Early 2011 machine, 2GHz, 8GB RAM, OSX Yosimite 10.10.2.
I have iPhoto version 9.6 and it will not open, just hangs up on the main screen with the little wheel spinning in the middle of it endlessly. No error messages. Program will not start even after several minutes and no other programs running in the background. Any thoughts?

You can Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

Hi Larry! I'll try that, thanks! The only thing that has changed since it last worked was upgrading to Yosimite.
To be clear, the instructions you gave me in your reply are to repair iPhoto or back up my photo library?
Ok, I followed the above instructions and lost a BUNCH of photos! as in a couple of years worth! Now what???
Restore the backup and use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - o create a t library leaving the current one unchanged for future needs

I simply made copy of my iPhoto Library file, how do I restore from the copy? Thank you SO much for the help!!

Copy it back to the pictures folder (or where ever you copied it from)

It's still in the same folder and the original. "Pictures" folder, to be exact. Do I need to redirect iPhoto somehow?
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
Ok, I've opened the copy of my photo library I made with iPhoto Library Manager successfully. What is my next step? Make another copy and then open iPhoto while pressing/holding option key and select the new library?? If not, please advise! Thank you so much for the help!
