How do you select multiple photos in iCloud?

I am trying to select multiple photos in iCloud without having to click on each photo individually. Is there a way to do so?

Hello Tiggertiffany,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

If you need to select multiple items on iCloud.com then you can use the common procedure to select multiple items by either holding Command or Shift on your keyboard.

To select multiple files or folders, hold down the Command (⌘) key, then click the items.

To select multiple files or folders that are listed together, click the first item you want to select, hold down the Shift key, then click the last item.

My solution:

  • Installed Google Photos - free photo app on my iphone.
  • Uploaded all my photos to my google account (14.000 photos took about 24 hours, I just let it sit and work.)
  • Now when I use my PC browser to open google photos I can do what I used to do on icloud, select the first of a range of photos, hold the shift key, select the last in the range.
  • Tell it to download these photos
  • This generates a Photos.zip file in my downloads folder
  • I can then copy and paste these photos to where I want them on my PC or external drive for backup

Disadvantages:

  • A photo that was 2.02 MB when downloaded from icloud, is now only 1.38 MB large if I use the free unlimited service google offers. If I use the other "keep original" option I get 15GB of space free from google and keep the photo quality.
  • I have another app using space on my device

Sure I wish I could go back to what I still think is a nobrainer, Apple. Give me back the former, easy, intuitive, version of icloud photos, please!

I'm running Sierra and wondering why I can't do a "select all" and how could there possibly not be function to do so! I've got over 4,000 photos and the 'cmd + shift' action is not working! Can't we get an update on this MAJOR flaw in lack of intuitive design?

I've recently turned off iCloud and the "undo delete" button didn't respond and now I'm stuck downloading my pictures but at this rate I'm going to need more than 30 days.

Please advise!

This is driving me insane. I have plenty of storage on icloud I just want to save a back up on my external hard drive of the billion pics I have on there right now. I do want to delete the pics on my iphone so my phone has enough room on it so it doesn't keep glitching. Who has time to click on each picture?????!! It would take me ridiculous amounts of time to click on each one and I am so ******. Apple is really evil for this. I have Apple everything (every iphone, watches, imac, laptop, tv....) this is really stupid to try to profit from more icloud storage. You guys completely forgot about all the other functionalities of a select all - aren't you supposed to be user friendly and intuitive?!! AGGHHHH!!! I will have to take leave from work and ignore my kids just to try to select every picture of them.

ALSO - *** is up with the cumbersome print screen situation?! WHYYYYY?!!

Well, you cannot manage large amount of photos in iCloud Photo Library any longer at all using the web interface. We cannot select large amounts of photos to download them or To delete them. We could never search efficiently either. The most efficient way is to use Photos on an Apple device right now, but I hope Apple will fix this problem soon.

OK, so you have not clearly stated what it is you are attempting to do. Are you saying that you turned on iCloud Photo Library, uploaded all of your photos to iCloud Photo Library, and now want to turn it off? Where is it that you want to "Select All", and for what purpose? What action is it that you are attempting to take?

There seems to be a misunderstanding potentially here about iCloud Photo Library and how it works. Not sure where the "Undo Delete" button comes into play here? What was deleted, and what deletions were you attempting to undo?

Can you start from the beginning and clearly state what happened, what you are trying to do to rectify the issue, and what issues you are running into?

Cheers,

GB

But I want to delete pictures and video off my phone for more space on my phone (it does weird stuff like turn off sporadically if it's too full). If I delete photos from the phone, it deletes them in iCloud. So I need to save everything in iCloud before I delete the photos off my phone. So I need a select all function for iCloud and to be able to delete all the photos on my phone. Nobody wants to select each picture at a time. It's dumb.

I already have a 128 iPhone and I'm already paying for the iCloud. I bought the new laptop which also doesn't have enough space to put all the photos in iPhoto on the laptop....so I have no problem with paying for the space. I just want a simple select all function. Not too much to ask. It is not user friendly not to have that. It's greedy, stupid and frustrating.

shift used to work....not sure what happened.

The web interface to iCloud has been updated. It fixed quite a few problems, but after this update the "Select" button vanished and without the "Select" mode the Shift key does no longer work. I hope it is a bug and not a new feature and will be fixed soon.

Everybody here please use the feedback form to document to Apple the urgency of this fix.

Go to all photos. Photos will be separated by dates uploaded. Look at the plus sign at the right corner, click the + sign, all photos uploaded on the same day gets selected. At least this way you can select al the photos uploaded on the Same day and download. That's the only option I can see so far. Hope this works with you.
