How do you select multiple photos in iCloud?

I am trying to select multiple photos in iCloud without having to click on each photo individually. Is there a way to do so?

Agree with the fed-up users on here : Extremely annoying that Apple would change the simple, common, fundamental functionality of being able to Shift-Click to select multiple photos from "All Photos". Especially since it was already there!! It's baffling as to why they would even take this out. Restore this immediately, please.

Well, sounds like you are talking about something entirely different. If your niece is using iCloud Photo Library, and she wants the photos in iCloud Photo Library on her phone, all she has to do is turn on iCloud Photo Library on her phone (and, I would also recommend Optimization as well).

Every single photo in the iCloud Photo Library will download to the phone. It takes some time, since they have to download over your Wifi or Cellular, and the speed at which they download will depend on the speed of your connection as well as to how many photos you are downloading.

Here are some articles about iCloud Photo Library that would probably be a good starting point for you to determine the best way to get your photos to where you want them:

And for anyone that tries to explain to me what the purpose of icloud is (just to browse photos), I get it. I use Photoshop and Lightroom but when my photos are being saved in "optimize" mode, then they dont show up in those programs!

Apparently you don't Otherwise the lack of fine control on icloud.com would not be an issue for you or others.

If you got your 1000+ photos on iCloud.com, use the tool(s) that put them there to manage them. As suggested, the Photos app is one. You must use a Mac. so the Photos app on the Mac has the tools you can use to effectively manage your library, where every change you make is synced to iCloud.com.

iCloud.com was never designed to stand alone from any of Apple's photos apps. It is not a full featured application. It has a subset of features that may not meet your needs.

That you want the purpose of iCloud explained to you may mean it has little to no value to you. So be it. Do not use it in that case.

If you wish to have Lightroom or Photoshop have access to your locally optimized photos, ask them to integrate that into their applications.

Wow. I've been following this topic and every post you make shows you have absolutely no clue. And this one just tops it all. " iCloud is not a permanent storage location" .....Really? Again you show you have no clue. iCloud is as permanent a cloud service as any other cloud service like Dropbox (if you want real permanence then forget cloud).

You need to educate yourself about iCloud Photo Library. It is nothing like Dropbox or Flikr. Those cloud services store your photos, and you can add to and download them to various places from there.

iCloud is now, and always has been, a sharing service. It is intended to provide a single place to house a "source" library that is accessed, updates, and modified by multiple channels. If you delete 100 photos from an iPhone that has iCloud Photo Library turned on, those 100 photos will be permanently deleted from the iCloud Photo Library across the board.

Apple has always been clear about that fact:

Back up your photos and videos

When you turn on iCloud Photo Library, your photos and videos automatically upload to iCloud. They're not duplicated in your iCloud backup. So we always recommend that you keep back up copies of your library. You can download your photos and videos from iCloud.com to your computer and store them as a separate library, transfer them to another computer with Image Capture or Photos, or store them on a separate drive.

Which is why Apple charges for it. I agree that Apple is playing some really dirty tricks with the photo and storage stuff. Makes no sense AT ALL that you cannot click shift and choose as all other applications like Amazon and Google can. You really need to stop spreading fud if you don't know what your talking about Gail as many here have explained to you over and over. I think your just being thick. Work on getting information about the purpose and usage of services provided by Apple before you embarrass yourself. The information I have provided here is accurate. What I have provided in terms of explaining how iCloud Photo Library works, is in response to people not understanding that. However, it has zero to do with how you select multiple photos in that iCloud Photo Library.

That's because léonie and others have already explained what you can do as a workaround for that particular issue. No one is arguing that the issue is something that needs to be addressed by Apple.

But it has zero to do with how iCloud Photo Library works, and of that, I know exactly how it works, and what it is intended to do. Perhaps you might want to familiarize yourself with these articles to help you understand:

No I and others on here are fully aware we are on a community board.

It doesn't really appear you do.

We're just asking others and out load why?

If you are fully aware, you would stop asking this question, realizing, through your awareness, that it will not be answered.

Below is the sanctioned, authorized and only mechanism we can offer for your questions of why a decision was made by Apple.

Heck Apple DOES NOT sell space on their iCloud service as an "shared only system" . That's just idiotic. Nope, they sell it as all the other cloud services sell their's. As an Archival cloud service WITH SHARING CAPABILITIES. *****. NOPE

Here's how it works

iCloud Photo Library automatically keeps every photo and video you take in iCloud, so you can access your library from any device, anytime you want. Any changes you make to your collection on one device, change on your other devices too. Your photos and videos stay organized into Moments, Collections, and Years. And all of your Memories are updated everywhere. That way you can quickly find the moment you're looking for.

Your collection uploads to iCloud each time your device connects to Wi-Fi and your battery is charged. Depending on your Internet speed, the time it takes for you to see your photos and videos on all of your devices and iCloud.com might vary. SHARED LIBRARY FOR ALL OF YOUR DEVICES AND COMPUTERS THAT ARE SIGNED INTO THAT SAME ICLOUD PHOTO LIBRARY ACCOUNT.

Apple also offers the totally separate and independent iCloud Photo Sharing, which allows you to share your photos from either your iCloud Photo Library, or if you don't use it, from your Photos collection, with your friends and family. You can share a few photos or an entire photo album if you wish. But the service is separate and not related directly to iCloud Photo Library in any way.

And because iCloud Photo Library is not considered an Archival Library, Apple Recommends that you back up regularly:

Back up your photos and videos

When you turn on iCloud Photo Library, your photos and videos automatically upload to iCloud. They're not duplicated in your iCloud backup. But we always recommend that you keep back up copies of your library. You can download your photos and videos from iCloud.com to your computer and store them as a separate library, transfer them to another computer with Image Capture or Photos, or store them on a separate drive.

AND as to the original topic, you with all your vast knowledge of all things Apple (my knowledge has been demonstrated here to be of iCloud Photo Library, iCloud Services, and how they work together. Hardly "all things Apple) still have not explained the simple issue this op is about. Why can you not delete or manage photo's in the simplest manor like google or amazon or flikr or on and on, like ya know they use to have the ability to shift and choose 2 or more at a time.

And has been iterated many times thoughout this thread, we, as users, do not know the rationale as to why that option was removed from iCloud Photos at the iCloud.com level. We are users. We have no special insight into the minds of Apple. We don't know any more than you do why it is the way it is. All we can do is to recommend over, and over, and over, and over, that you send your feedback to Apple: Apple - Feedback.

That is your only remedy for that problem. That, or use one of the workarounds suggested. But stop beating us up about it. We didn't make it happen, we don't like it any better than you do, and we can't do any more about it than you can.

Unbelievable how bad icloud *****.

A gigantic waste of time for a NO answer.

And yet that is the answer. An answer to the original question that has been given many, many times.

Accurately. Fairly. Patiently.

To all those banging their heads against the wall, whining that iCloud is not the tool they want it to be.

Stop.

Find a better tool for your needs.

Fix this or I am switching over to Google where they seem to give a **** about creating software that is user friendly and intuitive, what MAC used to stand for.

Who exactly are you threatening? You are not speaking with Apple here.

How did your photos get in to iCloud? On a Mac you can annals the iCloud Photo Library and start a sync. All your photos will be downloaded to your Mac with no effort on your part.

Well, as we have suggested in this thread before, if you want to use an archival cloud photo service, you should use Dropbox or Google Photos.

Also as has been stated, iCloud Photo Library is not an archival cloud service, it is a syncing/sharing service designed to provide a single database that is accessible by any of your devices or computers that are signed into iCloud Photo Library.

Here is a user tip that might help you sort out iCloud - it is a complex system and can be more than a challenge to use. So, we get it: iCloud Deconstructed | Communities

P.S. This is a user to user technical support forum. Apple isn't here....

As léonie stated, if you want to delete large numbers of photos from iCloud Photo Library, do it on your iOS device or your Mac. It's not rocket science. We don't know why iCloud Photo Library works the way it does on iCloud.com, but iCloud.com is a website, not an app.

Attacking fellow users who are simply telling you how it works, is pointless and petty. If you have a beef, then tell Apple about it.

If you want to make a recommendation to Apple about how you would like iCloud Photo Library to work, then tell them: Product Feedback - Apple.

And learn how to use iCloud Library the way it works now, or use something else, but stop griping about it to us who can do nothing about it.

and defending the icloud's terrible UX design/experience for photos management is a very poor choice of an explanation here.

Defending is not similar to explaining.

Again, we all understand that these messages are not gonna reach Apple.

Simply because they want their Feedback elsewhere. The link has been provided.

Here it is again. >>> Feedback for Apple goes here >>> http://www.apple.com/feedback/ <<<

But we all need a forum to share our frustrations and this'd atleast be of help to new users who happen to do a google search on this problem in the future.

And this community is NOT THAT PLACE. That Google brought you here does not alter the terms and condition you agreed to in order to post your frustrations.

On a Mac with MacOS 10.10.3 or newer use the Photos.app to download all photos from iCloud to na new, empty library. Then export the photos from Photos to a folder on the drive where you want them, if you do not want to use Photos for your photos. On a PC use iCloud for Windows (Download iCloud for Windows) to download all photos at once: https://support.apple.com/kb/PH23053?locale=en_US

sorry but in icloud holding shift does not work!!

It used to work two years ago, when this discussion started, but then unfortunately an update to iCloud.com broke this feature.

We are still waiting for a fix. For the time being use iCloud Photo Library on a Mac to download large amounts of photos from iCloud, or iCloud for windows on a PC with windows (Download iCloud for Windows - Apple Support).

PEOPLE. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT WWW.ICLOUD.COM.

It does not matter if you are from WINDOWS or APPLE.

The main issue is that is you cannot select multiple files at once/drag the cursor the select files.

THERE IS NO WAY AROUND THIS until Apple does something about it.

Nothing else to do apart from leaving product feedback and pray the universe that they fix this issue soon.

THAT IS ALL.

!!!!!!!!!!!And remember, the issue is the online version of iCloud and NOT THE PHOTOS APP!!!!!!!!!!
