Updated Yosemite, now I can't boot into OS X

I updated OS X Yosemite and when I restarted the Mac Mini the progress bar doesn't move past a certain point.

I have had no major issues with the 2012 Mac Mini (i7 2.3ghz, 16gb ram, 1TB) previously, and have updated perfectly ok in the past, including beta versions.

Any helpful suggestions are welcomed and greatly appreciated, thank you.User uploaded file

Boo to recovery and repair the startup disk via Disk Utility

Next reinstall Yosemite. Nothing should be lost

Do you recall during your Yosemite install if you were offered FileVault? If so and you didn't uncheck the checkbox to enable it, then you have an encrypted disk which you unlock at restart from a login screen. That process takes a bit to complete before you actually logon and get to your Desktop and the progress bar can stay in that position for a bit.
