Slow MacBook Pro

My MBP suddenly became very slow, the beachball cursor shows up on practically every application and I also noticed that iTunes is choppy on playing audio files saved in the machine. The machine also does not sleep when the lid is closed, it heats up really bad when I close lid and put it in my bag. I have sort to complete shutdowns for now. I have reinstalled Yosemite, reset SMC and the problems still persists.

If this started happening without your having made any changes and without a warning of low disk space, then it's likely that the startup drive, or some other hardware component, is failing. Back up all data immediately, then make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.

There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.

I think problems seem to be contained now, here are the fixes I applied.

To fix the beach ball wait, I booted in safe mode then rebuilt the kext cache. That put the issue at bay, it's still happening but not at the initial frequency.

To fix the deep sleep issue, I deleted the sleep image and disabled safe sleep.

I will update here should any adverse issues happen.
