Q: I deleted my bootcamp via DU and then deleted the hard drive by using the terminal. My BOOTCAMP is still there and now my fusion drive is separated from the SSD portion and I have no idea how to fix it.

First off I have a 3tb fusion drive.

I created a 200gb bootcamp, I tried deleting the bootcamp because I thought I messed it up and googled how to delete a mac partition which told me to use Disk Utility, did that and then erased it and somehow it got locked and wouldn't let me do anything to any partition on my hard drive (everything was greyed out)

After looking up and googling for hours I found a post saying the only way to fix it would be to go into CMD+R and go into the terminal window and type out disklist and then find the first UUID number and do something along the lines of disklist delete (UUID) i forget the exact formula. I did this, and then I had 3 separate untitled hard drives.

One in the size of 1.9gb on in 800gb and one in 121.3gb (which is the SSD), I put my time machine backup onto the 1.9gb untitled and now my computer is booting slowly (because it's no longer running off of the SSD and the original bootcamp is still there.

To be honest I am absolutely confused on what else to do!

Is there anyway I can fix this?

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

My recommendation is to stop the reinstallation. I can help rebuild the Fusion drive, and then you can re-install. It will be a much quicker installation.

The installation already went through (took only 10 minutes)

But yes lets re create the fusion drive please. Honestly I can't express how thankful I am so far for all your help!

    Boot into Internet Recovery (Command+Opt+R).

    Execute Step 3 e. This will make disk1s1 - EFI, and disk1s2 - Remainder (3TB).

    6. Re-create Fusion Drive using the following commands. You need to ensure disk0s2 (SSD slice) is first, otherwise your Fusion drive will have very bad performance.

         a. diskutil cs create OSX-LVG disk0s2 disk1s2

         b. diskutil cs createVolume OSX-LVG JHFS+ "Macintosh HD" 100%

    7. Run diskutil list and diskutil cs list and post output.

    8. Re-install Yosemite. Test booting from the Internal Fusion Drive.

    9. Run BCA and pick the appropriate size for Bootcamp, which will be only on the HDD part of the Fusion drive.

PS: diskutil may create a volume, if disk0s2 can be re-used.

I did the following steps and restored from a backup, here's the issue now.

    Screen Shot 2015-02-26 at 5.04.39 PM.png

They seem to still be separated, am I missing something? when I booted it didn't boot as fast as it would if it was booting off the SSD.

I figured out my problem, the fusion drive is now back together completely.

Its booting fine, the only problem now is an untitled partition with the size of 251gb, which was the original size of the bootcamp.

How can I remove the 251gb untitled partition?

Here's the disklist and disk cs list.

Did you execute step 3e? It should have erased the entire HDD, including the 252Gb stale BC partition. The performance will be bad. If you notice the the first disk in the CS list output is the 1.9TB HDD (it should have be a 3TB HDD) and should have been the second part of the CS volume. CS volumes de-stage from the first disk to the second disk (or nth disk), which is usually the slower mechanical disk. The current layout is reversed. The first disk should always be the SSD. subsequent disks can be a mix of SSD/HDD disks.

Yes, I did 3e first followed by the secondary set of instructions starting at 6.

Did you get any errors in steps 3a-3d? The steps delete the two Untitled LVs (as they existed originally), delete the LVGs, erase the disk to see the whole 3TB disk. Also, you SSD is labeled HDD, even though 3e labels the 3TB disk as HDD.

The current configuration will cause future performance problems. How averse are you to starting over again? If we do, I suggest you post the commands and their outputs or just record them locally rather than switching between Terminal and Safari in Recovery console.

There is also a TB of missing space.

I am fully ok with starting completely from scratch, I think it will help.

I understand a small amount about mac (very little) but I was able to just format the hard drive through terminal and then erase all volume groups and I "fixed" the hard drive and now the hard drive is a single disk of 3tb again.

Now I guess all we need to do is switch the order of which the SSD and HDD are?

Need to to post my diskutil list and diskutil cs list again?

Yes, please. It will provide a good starting point to backtrack, if necessary.

When you went into Disk Utility and deleted partitions, OS X rebuilt the CS volume. You can see the index 0 of the SSD and 3TB HDD as index 1. You should be able to either re-install Yosemite, or you can try booting normally first to test if the OS X installation is still intact. If it is not, you can reinstall Yosemite on the current setup which should work properly. The CS volume also has 3.1TB storage.

So then everything is completely ok? I have yosemite running on it now.

It's running fine, so everything worked and it's fixed? I don't need to switch the HDD and SSD anymore?

No. You should be fine. If you do see any issues, please post back. The index shows the full 3TB drive. If you decide to play with Bootcamp, use only BCA to delete the partition.
