Q: Yosemite 10.10.2 local services don't work

I have iMac 21'' early 2014 model. Now when I go to Google Maps, Apple Maps they don't find my mac, it just says "could not locate".

I have restored my mac couple of times, installed the yosemite again, deleted the com.apple.GEO.plist but it didn't work, switched off and on icloud and the location services from preferences, nothing worked for me. What to do to get the location services work?

You may not be able to get it to work…

Location services on Macs rely on the wifi access points around you (they do not have GPS installed). The computer scans for visible networks, then sends that info to Apple or Google. They do a 'best guess' based on their own databases of the wifi access points all over the world.

If they do not have enough info, they cannot work out where you are. The databases are updated via Google street view cars and people who submit data for improving Google & Apple services (Apple call it diagnostic info in iOS's settings). It may simply be a question of waiting for the DB's to have the access points added.

If you really want to know if it can work move the iMac to another location & retry, perhaps one with more visible wifi networks may work.

Have you considered just adding your address into the search field, that works too.
