How can I search for folders, not files?
I want to use the finder search to search for folder names, not for individual files. How can I do that?

You can't search for ONLY folder names in one step, although a "filename" search will also include folders that match the search term. However, once you do the search, click the + button next to "Save" on the top right, and you'll get a criterion dropdown - set "Kind" to "Folder".
If you do a lot of searching for folders, you could do this: once you've got the filter set up as above, remove the original search term (whatever word you were searching for). Click Save, call the saved search "Folders" and elect to save it to your sidebar. You've now got a list of all your folders in the sidebar - click it at any time, then you can add a new search term in the search box to narrow it down by name.

In the Finder, press Command-F to bring up a Finder search. Then enter your search term for the folders you want. At the top of the results list, select This Mac to make the search scope global, followed by choosing Folder in the second menu for the default "kind" filter that should be present. This will allow you to view only folders containing the name of the search term. Additionally you can add another search filter, and then further specify that the name should contain specific attributes, but this will largely be redundant given that folders only contain names and do not hold any data content.
