All of a sudden I seem to get numerous pop up boxes indicating that there is a bad script and requesting me to debug, cancel or continue. Why does this happen? Did I pick up a virus somewhere or is it an adaware problem?

You may have inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it.

Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required.
