How do I set up syncing Pages documents between an ipad 8.1.3 and an iMac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5?

The version of Pages running on iOS 8 will create Pages 5.5.2 format files, which require Yosemite, so I suspect that you can't synch the two.
Let Apple know what you think of that.
