how do you neuter an old OS X hard drive but still keep the data on it?

I have several OS hard drives in a workstation,

the program would like me to neuter the old OS X drives so they cannot boot up.

the data on these OS hard drive must be accessible.

Can't do what? Can't temporarily copy the data somewhere else before erasing the drive? Not allowed to erase the drive at all?

Regardless of your answer, then put the System, Library and Applications folders in the trash and delete them. Doing that will leave many hidden folders and files behind, and it will take a while to delete the thousands of files and folders you put in the trash, but it will be non bootable after that. Which is why I suggested copy/erase/copy back. It would take much less time.
