Q: No background music in iDVD menus...

I open the Inspector in iDVD, drop an audio track from the media browser into the audio well, the icon changes to show the name of the track & the duration, but when I preview or burn to disc or disc image, there is no sound.

I've tried this with many different themes and audio tracks. I've tried adding audio direct from the Finder instead of the media browser, but nothing will play the audio file I add via the Inspector.

Any ideas? Should I perhaps reinstall iDVD from my iLife disc?

There are a number of possible fixes:

1 - see my post in this topic: Re: Adding music to a menu

2 - See Beverly Maneatis' post in this topic: No music on my menu

3 - see Nick Bacchus's post in the same topic: No music on my menu

    Hi Old Toad,

    Thanks for your quick response...

I found and tried the methods you suggest by searching these boards before I posted my question. Unfortunately, none of them worked.

If I go to: /Library/Application Support/iDVD/Themes/iDVD7 then Right Click on Show Package Contents and go to: Contents/Resources/Revolution-Main.m4a I am able to preview the music file for the Revolution theme and it plays fine. So it seems that something is broken in iDVD - the theme's music file is there in the Application Support package, but iDVD is not finding this file.

A long shot but give this a try:

Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and repair disk permissions and the disk.  Reboot normally and try again.

I've got it working by dragging the app to the trash and reinstalling from the iLife DVD. All the themes now work with their associated background music file - except the Sky theme - this one shows a music file in the Inspector's audio well, but the volume is on Min and it won't move.

It's version 7.1 and I'm told there's an update available to 7.1.2, but when I click on the link for this, I get taken to the App Store where I'm told there are no updates!

Also, when I reinstalled iDVD, I deselected Garageband, iMovie etc as installing these would be a backward step. However, I was unable to deselect iPhoto. That app is no longer available in the Finder - it's grey and not selectable, so I guess I'll need to delete that somehow and reinstall it from the iLife DVD, and then try to find the appropriate updates for both iPhoto and iDVD.

I've not emptied the trash yet, so I could just put iDVD back in the Applications folder, reboot from the Recovery Volume, select Disk Utility and repair the permissions...
