Sync what exactly ? You can keep some things (e.g. Safari bookmarks, contacts, calendars) synced via iCloud (if you are using the same iCloud on both and have the relevant sections enabled on both in Settings). You can't use an iPad or iPhone in the same way as a computer's iTunes for syncing content.

Instead of using iTunes to sync data, you can sync many types of data (such as contacts, calendars, pictures, reminders) using iCloud.

iTunes is required to sync media such as music, tv shows, or video between iOS devices; but you can download your iTunes Store purchases directly to your iOS device(s) using the steps found here:

Are you using the same iCloud account on both devices (assuming that the calendar events are stored on the iCloud account), and have Calendar enabled for the account on both ?
