Q: Itunes green screen when playing on Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro with Win8 64 bit

I recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga Pro 2 with Win8 64bit.

I installed iTunes and downloaded my movies HD and non-HD and they played great. I really loved my machine on the airplane where I can watch movies comfortably in tablet mode and use my corporate apps.

I was experiencing an issue where randomly on boot the drive was not found so Lenovo sent a repairman to the house and he replaced the motherboard.

Prior to his arrival I deauthorized my iTunes on the laptop.

After the motherboard replacement my speakers stopped working and I get a green screen when I try to play movies or tv in iTunes.

Lenovo tech support has reinstalled the drivers for sound and video numerous times from various sources to no avail.

I can see the trailers in the iTunes store, watch my own HD videos and youtube but still get just a green screen for iTunes movies and TV.

I have reinstalled iTunes (although the settings seem to remain) and I have re-downloaded movies.

If I use ApplePlay the media works great on my AppleTV from my laptop so there isn't anything wrong with the media.

Lenovo is sending a tech to see why the speakers don't work and maybe replace the motherboard again. I have not yet discarded the old motherboard as instructed so I may ask the tech to reinstall it just to see if iTunes restores.

If you know any possible solutions or if you are having similar issues feel free to respond to this post.

You can also reference my ticket numbers at Lenovo if that helps.

I could be off the mark, but you may need to install the version of iTunes here: iTunes for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards).

And then repair/reinstall QuickTime 7.7.6 for Windows.

If that works for you then the next time Apple Software Update or iTunes tells you there is a new version revisit the first link. It should be updated with a new "for older video cards" version that will work with QuickTime.

    UPDATE:

Lenovo sent back the same tech who is always helpful. He found the speaker cable needed to be reseated and the speakers started working.

He was also nice enough to reinstall the board previously removed. It turned out it wasn't the motherboard but a daughterboard that controls ext vga and the harddrive. After putting the old defective board back in the same green screen issue still remained. The old boot issue came back so we know conclusively that the board was the fault with random boot failures where hardrive is not found. He swapped the replacement board back in and now I have sound and it boots every time but I still have the green screen issue.

Believing that the issue is now more focused on the actual iTunes application I followed these Cnet directions to completely uninstall iTunes and then reinstall it but when I did I still have my old settings so I will continue to look for directions to completely remove iTunes from my Windows 8

    Thanks tt2!

I tried this suggestion but still had the green screen issue.

    One other observation.

The Lenovo tech suggested connecting to a VGA monitor to see if the issue exists there too.

I used the mini HDMI port with an HDMI mini to regular HDMI converter to connect to my 60" HDMI TV and have the same green screen issue.

My laptop can wifi the video to my apple TV just fine which shows the media etc is good.

I can google HD videos and watch any of the videos there just fine so this issue is strictly with iTunes

I recall back in the day that turning down some of QuickTime's optimization settings would fix some tendency for it to display in green. I've no idea if that is still likely to help since I haven't seen those symptoms myself in a long, long time, and I find it hard to believe it should still be a problem on what sounds like a still relatively new machine.

    Still no joy!

I have been enjoying Netflix, youtube, hbo2go, and a number of other video services but still iTunes fails with a green screen.

I noticed when I uninstalled and reinstalled it still had all my settings and I suspect it is a bogus setting that is causing my issues.

I used the links provided by apple to uninstall iTunes so I am guessing I need the more advanced directions.

    Any help?

    woohooo! its fixed!

Turns out when we deauthorized the computer from iTunes prior to swapping out the harddrive if failed to reauthorize properly.

We followed the steps too delete the SC folder and when the computer was reauthorized viola! it works!

If iTunes repeatedly prompts you to authorize your computer - Apple Support
