ipod touch 3rd generation is stuck on disabled mode

I bought a ipod off my friend and once I charged it and tried to turn it on it says that ipod is disabled and to connect to iTunes. I tried to factory reset it with the holding down the home button and plugging it in to the iTunes on my computer and I on get promted that iTunes cant connect with ipod cause it is lock with a passcode. can somebody help me get back into my ipod. thanks
