Is Spotlight or Time Machine indexing them?
Are you using some 3rd party Disk SW?
What Mac OS version?
Yosemite... I had the same problem with Mavericks.
Thunderbolt?
Most likely how you set up the externals. Using hubs, using usb extension cables. And how are they connected to the Mac. Isolate all of the above and you;ll fix the issue. I just went through this one by one using Mavericks and Yosemite. I found an old Apple usb extension cable caused all of the issues. I don't get "disk ejected improperly" anymore and a ton of other bugs.
Thanks Smokerz: No hubs or extensions but I did install a USB card in a slot in the computer. Think that's the problem?
Thunderbolt? No... Hellcat, Corsair and 30 others.
Sorry... When you mentioned "Thunderbird" my first thought was aircraft and being an ex aviator, my answer was in that line. Checking my system info indicates no drivers loaded on Thunderbird. Please educate me... what is "Thunderbird?"
Thanks Smokers... you were on the right track. I switched my two printers to the USB card and plugged in the two hard drives into the computer's USB outlets and now NO improper eject messages. What a relief!!! Thanks again.
