bought ipad from friend. He cant remember icloud account password and doesnt know how to recover it or even have that email address anymore. . Any suggestions how i can erase n reset ipad so i can add my account on it

Your friend will need to contact Apple's account security team to recover the information for his iCloud account. Alternatively, if he has original proof of purchase for the iPad, he can take that and the iPad to an Apple store for assistance.

You cannot erase this iPad and use it without his help. He has to erase the device for you. He has to recover his password some way or take the iPad to an Apple Store with his original receipt to prove that he is the owner of the device and see if they can help.
There is no way around activation lock on the device.
