Q: iTunes Airplay Icon Missing (iTunes 12, Windows 8.1)

Hi, all.

I'm new to the forum and did search for this topic, but most items I found were for 2013 and 2014.

I just updated to iTunes 12.1.1.4 and run Windows 8.1. I have an Apple TV in the media room, Apple Airport Express hooked up to a speaker in the living room, and an iHome iW1 speaker in the kitchen on my network.

On my iPad Air 2, I can see:

- Apple TV

- Airport Express

- iHome iW1

On my iPhone 6, I can see:

- Apple TV

- Airport Express

On my Windows machine, I can see:

- Nothing. There is no Airplay icon.

I'm willing to write off the iPhone issue. The iHome product has always been a bit buggy requiring way more restarts/resets than I thought was reasonable. But the Windows missing Airplay icon is maddening. It's the only way to broadcast music to more than one speaker in my pseudo-Sonos setup.

I've tried various fixes (restarts, modem restarts, IPv6/IPv4 switch on & off) with no luck. Anyone else experiencing this problem and/or have a suggested fix? Thanks!

I tried all of these fixes on my Windows 7 64 bit PC with no success.  What did work was resetting my router.

It was a network issue for me. I tried all of the fixes from the Apple support pages, as well as the ipv6 fix. Nothing worked.

All of the PCs in my home, except the problem PC, are connected to our home network and the internet using wireless. The Airplay device (a Marantz receiver), a TV and the problem PC are the only things connected via Ethernet.  All of the wireless PCs had normal Airplay functionality.  The Ethernet-connected devices are connected to the router via several Powerline adapters. Network file sharing and Internet access all worked perfectly for the Powerline devices, so I assumed everything was on the same network (as Apple requires).

As a last resort, I reset all of the Powerline adapters to their factory settings, and re-secured the network using the Powerline instructions.  Doing that restored Airplay operation on the problem PC.

    Cheers,

    Jeff

I had a very similar issue.  iTunes on Windows 7 and Windows 10 could not see/connect to air play speakers.

What ultimately fixed the problem was I had to update my router's configuration to 'enable IPV4 multicast streams".   It was disabled and only IPV6 multicast streams was enabled.

I now have IPV4 and IPV6 multicast streams enabled on my router and everything appears to be working.

Hope this helps as this can be a very frustrating issue to resolve.

Every once in a while, my iTunes of Mac is missing the Airplay icon.   Shutting down iTunes and re-opening it brings it back.   I wish there was a way to access it from the menu when it's missing.

Just wanted to say, even though this is more than a year later, this solution worked for me when my Airplay icon disappeared on my windows 7 pc.  I'm just curious what exactly I turned off and what the effects can/will be.
