iOS8 flattens battery

problem on iP5 and iP6 (both running iOS8.1.3 - did not have this problem on any version of iOS7) - when mail app opened it continually syncs (spinning pinwheel keeps spinning even after mail has been delivered) and/or can take a long time to collect new mail. Result is phone gets hot and battery flattens quickly and potentially big roaming bills!) Only solution is to keep closing the mail app down after downloading emails

I run 2 email accounts - one on Apple Cloud, the other a MS Exchange account to our corporate email servers.

I suspect this is an iOS8 issue

Any ideas please?

Did you try to delete the Exchange account, restart the phone and add it back again? There have been cases where Mail did not stop trying to connect to the Mail server, causing this battery drain and data consumption.
