Need help iphoto on 10.10.2

I just upgraded to 10.10.2 and iphoto 9,6. When I went into iphoto all my pictures and albums were gone. I tried to go into time finder as I use My Passport for backup to import the pictures into the library. I can see the backups, but not the pictures. I then went back into iphoto and it told me I needed to download aperture 3.3. When I went to Mac store to get Aperture 3.3, it says it won't be supported after Spring and it was $79 bucks. Do I really need Aperture to get my pictures back? What should I do?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), iphoto

You do not need Aperture to get your pictures back (iPhoto is enough).

In order to recover your photos, open Finder and go to the folder where your photo library is/was stored. Then, open Time Machine and navigate through your backups, so when you have found the library you want to restore, highlight it and press Restore. Finally, open iPhoto and your photos should appear properly.

Respecting to Aperture, Apple is replacing both iPhoto and Aperture with Photos for OS X this year, a brand-new and free app included in OS X Yosemite by default.

Normally, the Pictures folder you can find inside your user account folder (~/Pictures). You should find a file called "iPhoto Library" or something similar, but you have to look for this file in your Mac's hard drive, not in the external drive (you are going to use Time Machine to restore it from the external drive).

NO!

You do not restore part of the iP{too library - it is a single entity and must be restore in its entirety as a single entity

But first try Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

That may do the job - and it if does not then you will restore the iphoto library from your backup

Assuming you are using TimeMachine to backup then you do these operations on your Mac - NOT on the backup drive

https://www.apple.com/support/timemachine/ In order to recover your photos, open Finder and go to the folder [on your Mac] where your photo library is/was stored. Then, open Time Machine and navigate through your backups, so when you have found the library you want to restore, highlight it and press Restore. Finally, open iPhoto and your photos should appear properly.

Ok..so I go into iphoto press the option button as I am opening it and it gives me another option to pick a different library to open so I can import from an external drive. I find the backup and pics, but when I try and open I get the following error: Aperture library needs to be upgraded. To open this Aperture library in iphoto, you need Aperture 3.3 or later. Click update Aperture to buy the latest version of Aperture from the Mac App Store. After installing the update, open your library in Aperture to upgrade it.
