Importing ICS to calendar across devices

I have set up family sharing for a calendar. When I import an ICS into this shared calendar it a) doesn't share to the target devices (an iPhone 6 on 8.1.2) and b) it disappears from my iPad after around 10 mins or so (iPad Air 2 on 8.1.2).

What am I doing wrong?
