I am not able to upload iOS. Still plugged into iTunes and has an apple and a line under it showing. Is it downloading the software? (5s iPhone)

I am not able to upload iOS 6 into my iPhone 5s.

How are you doing it? On the phone itself, or connected to iTunes?

I was on iTunes, but I did get an amazing Apple employee on the phone and she walked me through it! Thanks for trying to help.
