Try option (alt) - g or option 2.
Hi Roger...new to mac...I maybe being a bit thick, but what to you mean by option ?
Dave
It's long been known as the option key but modern Apple keyboards label it 'alt' - the key next to the 'command' key.
Hi Roger
tried both option keys with an 8......but it only brings up a c with a complete circle round it ( cant think what thats called, but certainly not a @ ..I have tried using this but of course it shows as invalid

Why? Try alt-g or alt 2. If they don't work try the Keyboard viewer ( from the language flag icon in the menu bar - you may have to enable this in System Preferences>Keyboard.) ( © is the copyright symbol.)
Hi
It is at Option + g for Spanish, Option + 2 for Spanish ISO. Use Keyboard Viewer to see which key does what for any layout.

Go to system preferences/keyboard/input sources and make sure that Spanish ISO is the only thing on the list.

I don't know of any keyboard layout which has © at option plus 2. Could you double check that one? If not @ there might be “ or € or ™ instead.
You may not actually be looking at Keyboard Viewer if you not see special characters when you hold down the option key. To activate it see

You should get the same result with either the left hand or right hand option key.
