finder doesn't launch

finder doesn't launch

When I turn my computer on, the finder doesn't launch. Can use 'safe mode", but it doesn't give me access to the audio or video clips I need.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

something to try is using this path Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist)

Drag this file to the trash (DO NOT EMPTY TRASH)

Log out and re-boot, try again, if no joy, drag the file out of the trash and replace it where it was (same path) you may need to enter your administrator password to replace it.

If the above doesn't work, try running this program and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read.
