How do you make an audio CD from an Tune file?

How does one make an audio file from an ITunes music file ? I tried just copying the file and burning it but it would not play on my CD player. What needs to be done to the file.

Mac mini (Late 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), airport extreme

make a playlist of music and burn the playlist not the file
