Why are my contacts not updating?

I am syncing my contacts from my iPhone 5S to my Macbook pro and the newest information is not transferring to my macbook. Can someone help?

I have old contact info on my macbook and want the updated info on my iPhone to transfer.

Hi dgt111,

The best way to keep your information updated between your MacBook Pro and your iPhone is using iCloud for your contacts, calendars, notes, etc. Do you have this feature turned on? If you do, you can back up your iPhone first to iCloud, and then merge or replace the information on your computer with the information on your iPhone.
