I have followed all of the advice and no joy.

I may have missed it, but my solution was to, in addition to apps, disable photos, mail, contacts, calenders, safari & Notes.

Its now backing up 🙂

Hopefully I can add back one at a time................thought I would share this anyway as wanted to pass on a possibility that had been missed.
