It means you have a RAM problem. If you upgraded the RAM yourself it's one of these three items:
Incorrect RAM (iMacs are extremely sensitive to RAM!!!!)
Failed RAM
Unseated RAM
If you upgraded yourself return the RAM, install the original Apple RAM and ONLY install either OWC (www.macsales.com) or Crucial RAM.
Thank you for your reply. I did not upgrade or change the original ram. I take them out and test them separately.
My iMac also rattles and I believe it is the hard drive. Or do you think the rattle can come from the RAM … a loose socket or similar?

Download and run Etrecheck. Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here (and recommended by Apple Support personnel) in the ASC to help identify the more obvious culprits.
