i can't wake up my apple tv with my iPad

just bought an apple tv.

i turned on home sharing on my iPad and ATV, and they both work fine. But when ATV goes to sleep, i can't wake it up with the iPad, i have to use the remote control, after that i can control my ATV with the iPad. Is it supposed to be like this?
