Does replacing the RAM on 2011 MacMini improve performance?

My office desktop computer is a 2011 MacMini running the latest OS X and Windows 7 through Parallel software. When I puchased it I upgraded the RAM to 8 GB. Over time performance has decreased significantly despite periodic clean ups of the hard drive.

My question is whether replacing the RAM would significantly improve and restore speed?

Well I have no startup programs slowing down the boot up process. I go through the hard drive and delete unnecessary files from the Finder. I have plenty of space. Over 250GB. Clear browsing history. Really my hardrive has PDFs, Word Docs and Excel spreadsheets. Someone that works at an Apple Store suggested I switch out the Ram. It got me thinking that Ram today is faster than 1333 from 3/4 years ago.

I have a MacBook air that's a year old. 4GB 1600 DDR3 ram and its at least twice as fast at least.

If the Mini you have is running a hard disk drive of 5400-RPM, you may wish to consider

an upgrade to a faster spin-rate hard disk drive, with suitable cache, of 7200-RPM. You

could also consider a slightly larger capacity and that would still run faster than 5400.

The bottleneck in a Mini can be traced to the system using hard drive space and the

rate of which the read-write to that location can take. And then, more RAM may help

if you happen to use applications that prefer to use more. Look into the HDD/SSD.

In any event...

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

Yes, in your case, more RAM would definitely help. However, you do have junk software (Kaspersky) and Adware that needs to be removed. See below for instructions to remove the AdWare. Consult the developers website to remove Kaspersky.

Please review the options below to determine which method is best to remove the Adware installed on your computer.

The Easy, safe, effective method:

http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php

If you are comfortable doing manual file removals use the somewhat more difficult method:

Thank you very much Illaass and Stedman1,

I am really desperate with this so that helps a lot... in fact Kaspersky is not really junk software, I have just bought one yearly "Kaspersky total security" license trying to clean my Mac from virus.

I will definitely buy more memory for that and I have read in other posts of this foro that you have recommended some shops like, spemacsales.com. However I live in France right now and it is not is to deliver here. So please, if you can provided some more details about the specification I will try to find a shop able to deliver here. I also wondering if 16Gb will be supported by my mid 2011 mac mini or if 8Gb is the maximum.

Thanks again for you support
