Yes. It is safe.

That's the whole purpose behind the app store. The worst thing that you can do is to obtain an app elsewhere.

The App Store is the only supported place to download an install apps. Apple has to approve apps before they can be sold in the store. It is the only venue for downloading apps that I would trust.

The Apple App Store is totally safe. If you download apps from safari or other internet browsers that is when they will possibly contain trojans, malware, and backdoors.

Apple has published rules for the app store apps to follow. Some apps could not follow the rules and apple did not detect the problems. Apple would remove apps not following the rules when apple finds out. I do believe apps can reports things about you if you give the app permission.

You'll be OK even if it had backdoors. The iPad has what's called a sandbox design, each app is seperate from the others. So even if there was a backdoor all it could see would be would be the websites you downloaded to the app, nothing more. The iPad is very safe to use, download apps only from the App Store and you'll be fine.

Does your ipad have cellular? Turn off wifi. Read book. goto settings > cellular > Use cellular data for ...

shows a list of apps with data usage. Can turn off app. Reset is at bottom.

Don't see that for wifi. Going to have to look at your router.
