assistance to speed up performance

I would like any input on ways to check and improve the performance of my macbook pro. I notice at times it seems slow to respond when running programs and want to find solid ways I can check improve this. Leary of programs that are available without recommendations.

thanks

Hi, I hope it's ok that I'm piggy backing on this thread, it's my first time using the forum, so I'm not too sure the correct process. I too am having trouble with my Macbook Pro, usually starting up programs like any of the Office suite. I 'll include the same diagnostic that marosennc ran, and if someone's able to give me some pointers I'd really appreciate it. I'm not much of a techno wizard, so it might need dumbing down a bit (or a lot). Thanks in advance

FWIW, it's not really recommended to jump into someone else's thread as it gets too confusing, so find the right forum and start your own thread as you'll get more attention that way.

In the meantime, you need to get rid of Clean my Mac - it is absolutely worthless. And, you could also get more RAM as you're running with the minimum recommended.

Mar 18, 2015 7:39 PM in response to marosennc

OK now that you've had your EntreCheck run looked at and been given a clean bill of health, here's what I suggest:

Bump your RAM to at least 8 GB,

Install an SSD. I've done this 6 times in the last 6 months and it makes all the difference. Last month I was working on a client's computer and saw the spinning beach ball. I realized I hadn't seen it in the 6 months since I installed the SSDs in our two computers.

Mine here is an early 2011 MBP 13". Photoshop opens in 3.4 seconds!

All the parts were from OWC:

https://www.macsales.com/

Also I haven't moved to Yosemite. All our computers are running Mavericks until all the problems get sorted out.

Mar 18, 2015 7:44 PM in response to marosennc

I would prune out some of the login items - only have items you always need running.

System Preferences > Users & groups, login items tab is where you manage them.

Check VMare, Citrix & the other launchd jobs are uptodate.

I suspect an SSD would improve performance if you are unhappy with it, but you do need more RAM for whatever tasks you have done recently.

@Chevalle21, if you want help please create your own thread you should also search here - CleanMyMac is junk & should be removed, the explanations how & why are on this site.
