File icon will not position below a HD icon?

File icon will not position below a HD icon?

iMac14,2 / 3.5GHz Intel Quad Core i7/ 8G RAM / OSX10.10.2 / 3TB Fusion HD

Desktop/View/Show View Options:

Icon size - 128x128

Grid spacing - one step from left.

Text Size 16 pt.

Sort: Snap to Grid

Why will no file icon on my desktop position directly under my Hard Drive icon.

There seems to be an invisible area beneath the Hard Drive icon where no file icon can position.

This didn't used to be like this, what has changed? I can position any file directly beside the Hard Drive icon, but not below it.

Go up to the menubar and select View. Select Sort by and then choose Snap to Grid. To control the grid spacing, select View again and then choose Show View Options. One of the options is Grid Spacing. You can also adjust the icon size there.

Sorry - I missed the snap to grid in your explanation. I'm not perfect, but I guess you are. But Will Rogers would have liked me.
