After opening an email with an jpeg attachment, but not downloading it, and replying to the email the attachment is lost. When the original writer responds I can see a description of the attachment, but without the paperclip. I can no longer access or open the jpeg. Is there a way of getting that attachment to open. The emails are now in a conversation and I cannot get to the original email with the attachment showing.
Try Mail/Preferences/View and de-select Include related messages. Can you then select the message, open it and see the attachment. If you check your Sent folder, do the attachment show in a sent message?

This set me on the correct path. I went into preferences and unchecked "Use classic layout" and that solved the problem. Thanks for your input.
